The
Rock Springs Police Department is a progressive department consisting of 39
sworn police officers and 24 civilian positions. The sworn officers
comprise the Operations Division that consists of the chief of Police, two
commanders, five sergeants, six detectives, two misdemeanor investigators,
twenty patrol officers and three officers assigned to school positions.
The civilian positions comprise of the Services Division that consists of
nine dispatchers, five detention officers, three records technicians, three
animal control positions, one parking and nuisance position, one evidence
technician and two administrative assistants. All members of the Rock
Springs Police Department are ready to serve you.

Patrol: The Patrol Division is comprised of
the employees who are out in the public taking care of the everyday
business of investigating crime reports and accidents, issuing citations
and helping the citizens. The patrol officers are the one’s with the
lights and sirens on their vehicle.

Detectives:
The Detective Division is comprised of six detectives who
are tasked with the more serious investigations. Investigations
normally worked by detectives include but is not limited to homicide,
sexual assaults, burglary, robbery, major drug incidents, computer
crimes and many other more serious cases.

Communications:
The Communications Division is the hub of the community.
When you call the police department for help, this is where your call is
received. The information gathered by the communications worker or
dispatcher is relayed via radio to the appropriate officers for
response. The communications workers also dispatch for fire and
ambulance.

Records: The Records Division is tasked with
taking care of and dispersing the paperwork that is generated by the
police officers. The records employees are the greeters of the police
department and help to take care of the citizens needs when they respond
to the police department in person. The Evidence Technician and
Parking control also fall under the umbrella of RECORDS.

Animal Control: The Animal Control Division,
housed on West Center Street is also a function of the police
department. The Animal Control employees respond to and investigate
most animal calls within the city limits, calls such as barking dogs,
animals at large, and animal bites. This division also adopts animals

Holding Facility/Jail: The City of Rock
Springs now houses prisoners at the new County Jail facility.
Programs and
Opportunities:
The Rock Springs Police Department provides many
opportunities for the employees to specialize in training and service
programs. The department offers a Bicycle Officer program, Crime Scene
Investigation Team, Critical Accident Team, Narcotics canine, Negotiations
