The Rock Springs Police Civil Service Commission is requesting applications from persons interested in employment with the Rock Springs Police Department, for the purpose of establishing an eligibility roster for future hiring.

 

Entry Level Wage is $25.56 - $26.20 per hour with excellent benefits.

The Police Civil Service Commission will conduct testing in January, April, and September 2017.  

Applications can be printed from this page and completed or a packet may be obtained at City Hall.  Lateral transfers for current law enforcement officers are accepted with 3 years of experience and current advanced post certification.  Lateral transfer applicants must still pass all testing requirements as outlined below.  

 

Candidates must pass the written P.O.S.T. test, physical fitness performance test, and oral board interview, polygraph and intensive background investigation.

 

About the position:

Performs a variety of duties involved in the enforcement of laws and the prevention of crimes; to conduct and participate in general investigations of crimes, accidents, and cases; to control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulations; to serve as Patrol Officer, Detective, Field Training Officer, Tactical Team Member, K-9 Officer, Traffic Officer, or School Resource Officer; and to perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Department.

  • Entry level wage is $25.56 - $26.20 per hour with excellent benefits.
  • Health Plan inclusive of medical, dental and vision (monthly premiums start at $134.29);
  • Vacation (12 days), sick leave (12 days) and holiday pay (13 days);
  • Wyoming Retirement Pension Plan 100% paid by the City along with 457B options

January Testing Dates and Requirements



January 3, 2017
– Application due at City Hall Human Resources by 4:00 p.m.

January 11, 2017 – Written test at 8:30 a.m. at Rock Springs Fire Station #3, 145 Industrial Drive. Pass/Fail.

January 11, 2017 – Physical fitness test at 1:00 p.m. at the Family Rec Center, 3900 Sweetwater Drive. Pass/Fail. Comfortable clothing such as shorts, sweats, t-shirt, tennis shoes or sport shoes are recommended for the physical test.

January 12, 2017 – Oral board interviews at Rock Springs City Hall, 212 D Street. Come dressed for a professional interview.

January 12-13, 2017 – Polygraph - eat something prior to the polygraph and limit your caffeine intake. Cell phones are not allowed during the polygraph, so please leave them in your car. Comfortable clothing is suggested.


April Testing Dates and Requirements


March 28, 2017 – Application due at City Hall Human Resources by 4:00 p.m.

April 5, 2017 – Written test at 8:30 a.m. at Rock Springs Fire Station #3, 145 Industrial Drive. Pass/Fail.

Successful applicants will attend the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy.  The Academy cost will be covered by the City of Rock Springs as well as attendee's wages

  • A passing score requires an average of the 40th percentile with no individual area scoring below the 25th

 

We suggest that each applicant be aware of their own physical abilities, and practice each of the required categories in advance of attempting the department physical testing.  Keep in mind that Rock Springs is 6388 feet above sea level (More than a thousand feet higher than the Mile High city of Denver, Colorado).
