Occupation Tax (Business License) Information

 

Whenever any person by the use of signs, circulars, cards, telephone books, or newspapers, advertises, or represents that he is conducting business; or when any person holds an active license or permit issued by a government agency indicating that he is in business in Rock Springs, then a Business License Application must be filed and approved with the City Clerk's Office. 

A separate license must be obtained for each branch, establishment, or separate place of business in which the business is conducted.

Any institution or organization which is managed or conducted for religious, charitable, philanthropic or educational proposes is exempt.

Fees

 Businesses that employ fourteen or fewer employees shall pay an annual occupation fee of $50.00.

 Businesses that employ fifteen or more employees shall pay an annual occupation fee of $100.00.

 

Transient Merchant or Peddler

Transient Merchant: Any person whether as owner, agent, or consignee or employee, whether a resident of the City of Rock Springs or not, who engages in a temporary business of selling and delivering goods, wares and merchandise, must file a Transient Merchant application and be approved with the City Clerk's Office. 

A separate license must be obtained for each branch, establishment, or separate place of business in which the business is conducted.

Peddler: Any person, whether a resident of the City of Rock Springs or not, traveling either by foot, or by any other type of conveyance, from place to place , conveying or transporting goods, wares, merchandise for sale, or making sales, including services,  and delivering articles to purchasers.

 

Fees

Nonrefundable application fee of ten ($10.00) dollars.

The minimum license fee shall be twenty five dollars ($25), to include application fee and $10 per person, whichever is greater, for the first thirty days of business.For periods over thirty (30) calendar days, the licensee shall pay an additional twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for each additional month (5 employees or less) or seventy-five dollars (6 employees or more). Three-month licenses may be obtained for twenty five ($25) per person.  For a fee of one hundred dollars ($100.00) (5 employees or less), or five hundred dollars ($500) for 6 or more employees, the licensee may obtain a permit for the calendar year commencing January 1 and expiring on December 31,  of the year in which the licensee desires to conduct business within the City of Rock Springs.
