The Rock Springs Police Department is a progressive department consisting of 46 sworn officers.  Police officers perform a variety of duties involved in the protection of the citizens of Rock Springs, enforcement of laws and the prevention of crimes.  They conduct and participate in general investigations of crimes, accidents, and cases.  The Rock Springs Police Department also controls traffic flow and enforces State and local traffic regulations.  Special assignments include Detective, Field Training Officer, Tactical Response Team Member, K-9 Officer and School Resource Officer.

Candidates must pass a physical fitness test, by meeting one of the following requirements: 1) must meet the 40th percentile in each category assessed, or 2) accumulate a 50th percentile average of all categories assessed, with a minimum level of 25th percentile in each category.  They must also pass a written P.O.S.T. exam, consisting of four (4) sections that measure the applicant's basic math and problem solving, reading comprehension, grammar and writing.  A passing score consists of a minimum score of 70% in each section with an overall average of 75% to pass.  Passing an oral board interview, EyeDetect integrity test and intensive background investigation is also required. Certified Peace Officers are not required to take the written exam and could be considered lateral transfers.  Applications can be picked up at the Rock Springs Police Department or downloaded online at the City’s website www.rswy.net.

       The physical fitness test is conducted at the Rock Springs Family Recreation Center, 3900 Sweetwater Drive.  Comfortable clothing such as shorts, sweats, t-shirt, tennis shoes or sport shoes are recommended for the physical fitness test. 

        Written test location are to be determined and are announced upon passing the physical fitness test. 

        Oral board interviews are typically held at Rock Springs City Hall, 212 D Street.  Come dressed for a professional interview.
