Press Release

November 22, 2023
Rock Springs, WY – In response to the news articles from DMV Investigations alleging misconduct from a Rock Springs Police Officer, Chief Erspamer has issued the following statement:
On Tuesday, November 7th, I was made aware of a NewsBreak article from DMV Investigations alleging a lack of training, unethical practices, and a shroud of secrecy around our agency. The writer, who remains anonymous, combed through one of our officer’s personal Facebook accounts, posting photos of her on vacation long before she was even a police officer. The work of DMV Investigations is misleading and intentionally aims to disparage our officers. Wyoming law says that police officer recordings should not be released unless I feel it is in the best interest of the public. The RSPD often interacts with people in their worst moments, which should not be put on public display. Because of this, I will not typically release body camera videos. In light of the allegations against our officers and our agency, I do feel in this incident, it is in the best interest of the public to see what we were dispatched to and how we responded. We ask so much from our police officers. They are held to a higher standard but do not deserve to be treated this way. The footage speaks for itself, and the police department considers this matter closed.
The public may access the bodycam footage, the police reports, and copies of the DMV Investigations articles here: https://drive.google.com/.../1pWkTlKAesSF...
Rock Springs Police Department considers this matter closed and no further comments will be issued regarding this issue.
