Child Passenger Safety Seat Program

  • Phone:

Child passenger safety has dramatically evolved over the past decade. However, motor vehicle crashes continue to be the leading cause of death for children 4 years and older.

The best choices for a child restraint system in a passenger vehicle is:

A rear-facing car safety seat for most infants up to 2 years of age.

A forward-facing car safety seat for most children through 4 years of age.

A belt-positioning booster seat for most children through 8 years of age.

A lap-and-shoulder seat belt for all that have outgrown a booster seat.

In addition children younger than 13 years of age should ride in the rear seat of a vehicle.

The Rock Springs Fire Department Child Passenger Safety Seat Program is designed to educate parents and caregivers on the proper installation and use of child safety seats. The Rock Springs Fire Department has Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians available to conduct child safety restraint checks and provide installation instruction.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has designated the Rock Springs Fire Department Headquarters Station as a child safety seat inspection station. Parents or caregivers can contact the Rock Springs Fire Department to make an appointment for inspection of their child safety seat installation. If it is more convenient arrangements may be made to have this same service provided at either Rock Springs Fire Department Station 2 or Station 3.

If you need help with the installation on your Child Safety Seat, please contact the Rock Springs Fire Department at 307-352-1475 to set up an appointment with one of our Child Passenger Safety Technicians.
