RSPD K9 Unit

The Rock Springs Police Canine Unit (K9) has been an important part of the department for many years. The K9 Unit handles normal patrol duties, but is always ready to assist their fellow officers as needed. The combined effort of human and animal skills has resulted in the apprehension of numerous suspects, the locating of missing persons and the seizure of illegal narcotics and money.

Police Service Dogs also provide protection for the handler and other officers, assist the S.W.A.T. Team, are used for demonstrations at schools and community groups, and are especially helpful during searches, saving the department hundreds of hours each year by performing duties that regular patrol officers would have to do otherwise.

The Rock Springs Police Canine Unit consists of three handlers; Sgt. Matt Register, Officer Rusan Kolb, and Officer Austin Soto. They have two specially trained Police Canines; Max and Fenrir.
