Civic Center Programs Summer Events

Events are listed in chronological order beginning in May

 Hershey Track and Field Meet
May 30th, 2014 5:30 pm
Sportsmanship, physical exercise and fun are emphasized in this program.  Boys and girls ages 9-14 will complete in any three of seven available events with 1st and 2nd place winners eligible to compete in the state meet in Rock Springs on June 21st. Please assemble at the Rock Springs Junior High School track for registration at 5:30 p.m. on May 30th For more information please visit:
Huck Finn Fishing Derby
June 7th  9:00 am -12:00 pm
Hey Kids! Get your fishing poles for the 30th Annual Fishing Derby at the pond at Paul J. Wataha Recreation AreaPrizes will be awarded for the longest fish, smallest fish, largest fish per pound and total weight of all fish caught.  There will also be a  lure casting competition to be held during the fishing derby.  Registration begins a 8:30 am. Age Divisions will be: 3-7 year olds/8-12 year olds

Saturday, June 14th 10:00 am - 1:00 pm 
Join us for the 2nd Annual Touch-A-Truck, where you and your little one get a chance to meet local operators and get behind the wheel of some local industrial and recreational trucks and tractors.This FREE event will take place at the Rock Spring Family Recreation Center parking lot.  So bring your family down and explore some of your favorite vehicles including big trucks, tractors, police cars, fire trucks and more!!!  Click HERE for a list of vehicles that will be present.

Springland Splash
Friday, June 20th  5:30 - 8:00 pm.
The whole family is invited to Springland Pool to celebrate the first day of summer with swimming, free hot dogs, chips and refreshments served for all who attend.  
Price of admission is FREE!!

Whether you're a beginner or competitive runner, please join us for a fun, low-key run/walk that's save and social.  The run is typically no more than 50 minutes, although 50 is not a magic number.  We try to have runs go "out and back" so that everyone can start and finish together and run at their own pace with others of similar ability.  New runners may only want to run a mile or two; experienced athletes might do a tempo run.  This is geared towards families and people of all ages.  Walking is also encouraged!  There is no fee to participate.
  An adult must be present for children 12 and under.

Independence Day Events
Friday, July 4th
The Rock Springs Parks & Recreation Department will once again be hosting Wyoming's Largest Fireworks Display over the Wataha Recreation Area in 2014.The Fireworks show will commence at 10:00 pm. Events leading up to the fireworks include the FireWhacker golf tournament, 4-on-4 Mud Volleyball Tournament, concerts and we will also broadcast the synchronized music into the Wataha Rec Area for all who attend to hear.
Track & Field Fun Meets
Wednesday July 9th  & August 6th @ 6:00 pm
Bring your boys & girls down to the Rock Springs High School track to run jump and throw at a track and field fun meet  sponsored by the Recreation Division. Events include: 25m dash, 50m dash, standing long jump, 100m dash, 200m dash, joggers mile, 400 m dash, 4x100 relay, softball throw and 800 m dash.  Age divisions range from 3-18.

Just for Kicks Co-ed Kickball Tournament
Friday, July 11th Time TBA
Adult kickball teams with 8 players (4 men & 4 women) can compete for bragging rights at the local Kickball Tournament.  Rules and details will be posted @ in June.

Children's Dog Show
Friday July 18th 1:00 pm
This fun, non-competitive Dog Show in Bitter Creek Bark Park gives your kids a chance to dress up their favorite pet and show them off! Prizes are given out for longest tail, best costume on a dog, best costume on a contestant, best trick, smallest dog, and largest dog. Register your furry friend at 9:30 a.m. This event is open to all elementary age children.
Summer Programs

Saturday, July 19th 1:00 pm
And they're off! Big Wheels, tricycles or similar riding toys eligible.  No 2 wheels bikes or motorized cars!!Boys and girls ages 3-6 are invited.  Children must have their own vehicles.  Events include a drag race, slalom race and lap race. Come early and register at 12:30 pm in Bunning Park.
Children's Bike Rodeo
Saturday, July 19th 2:00 pm
Bring your 6-12 year old boys & girls to Bunning Park for an old fashioned bike rodeo.  Events include best decorated bike, wheelie contest, slow race, and barrel race.  Registration starts at 1:30 pm.
5th Annual UFO Disc Golf Tourney
Saturday, July 19th 10:00 am
Join your golf buddies at Arthur Park and join the Recreation Division for a disc golf tournament held for everyone 8 years old and above.  Registration starts at 9:30 am; there is a $5 entry fee per player.  Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, longest drive, and closest to the basket.
Movies In The Park
Friday, August 8th and 15th at dusk between 8:30 & 9:00 pm
Bring your favorite lawn chair and your movie snacks down to Bunning Park for a Friday night movie on warm summer evening.

Little Squirts Beginner Football 
Mondays, August 25th - September 22nd 6:00 - 6:45 pm
Children ages 3 - 7 years old learn the basic motor skills necessary to play organized football.  Fun, teamwork, responsibility and fair play are emphasized as necessary skills for life and the game.  Parental participation is required. 
Camp fee is $20 per child.

Youth Developmental Flag Football
Tuesday & Thursday, September 2nd - October 2nd
Develop your 1st through 3rd grader's love of football, along with their skills, in a learning based program emphasizing the fundamentals of the sport and why teamwork and fair play are so important for the future.  Parental participation for coaching teams is requested.
Camp fee is $30 per child and includes a jersey.
