Parks & Recreation

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION:

On behalf of all the staff in our Parks and Recreation Department, I welcome you to this website.  This year promises to be challenging for our department, yet I am confident that my staff will make the best of the resources we still have.  The state and local economy has been in a steady decline for several years now and unfortunately (as a result) our overall resources (personnel, operations & maintenance funds, new/replacement equipment funds) in recreation have been reduced accordingly.  Many cities in Wyoming receive a separate mill levy for recreation or have a large recreation partner like a school district or the county to shoulder a portion of recreation costs.  Rock Springs Parks & Recreation operates on ‘general fund’ monies combined with recreation fees paid by our patrons.

In addition, many cities in Wyoming do not have the amount of ‘overhead’ that Rock Springs does with amenities like an ice arena, a well-groomed 27-hole golf course or 25 city parks in which to recreate.  All of these quality areas cost money to operate and maintain – but much more important than that, it provides YOU, the citizen, with numerous QUALITY OF LIFE options that are essential to a healthy lifestyle.  We invite you to come out and participate in a wide range of activities provided by the four divisions that make up RS Parks & Recreation including the Parks Department, the Wataha Recreation Area/White Mountain Golf Course, Civic Center Programs and the Family Rec Center.

If you need my personal assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.  It is our wish to give the community our very best because we are Parks and Recreation – we take our work and patrons seriously – and we care deeply about our image as a department.

Best wishes for good health in 2017!

Dave Lansang – Director of Parks and Recreation
