Parks & Recreation

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION:

On behalf of the City of Rock Springs and all staff members within the Parks and Recreation Department, I would like to invite you to all the facilities we operate.  Our mission is to "Enhance the Quality of Life in Rock Springs", and we intend to follow through with this mission each and every day.

Whether it's the smaller atmosphere of the Civic Center that attracts you, or the wide expanse of the Family Recreation Center, our interest is in providing a suitable place for you to recreate.  From cardio-equipment to climbing walls, organized fitness classes to the indoor walking track, the indoor ice skating rink to the gymnasiums, racquetball to the swimming pools, and from the weight rooms to the Jacuzzis, opportunities abound in our recreation facilities.

Many other interesting and fun prospects are made available to our Community through our Recreation Department.  From young children through senior citizens, there are various leagues, special events, and outdoor and indoor activities available.

If outside activities such as golf, softball, and baseball interest you, then the Paul J. Wataha Recreation Complex  is the place for you.  This outdoor recreation area boasts some of the finest playing conditions found in the region.

White Mountain Golf Course , now a 27-hole facility, continues to provide golfing opportunities and challenges to beginners and seasoned players alike. The full-service clubhouse, golf shop and shack shop is available to all.

If you are just looking for fresh air and relaxation, please visit one of our twenty different neighborhood and community parks.  Our Parks Department has parks located in all areas of the City.  Most offer playgrounds, picnic sites, and plenty of open grass areas.

Rock Springs' first dedicated 'Dog Park' is now open.  Now your beloved dogs have their own personal park!   Our "Bark Park" is located on West Center Street, (behind the Plaza Mall) and is a very convenient, friendly pet area.

Parks and Recreation has also opened a brand new neighborhood park on College Drive near Arthur Street;  thus the name-------Arthur Park.  Our first Disc Golf Course is located here, along with playgrounds, a walking path, plenty of open space to relax and accommodations for group functions or outings.

Groundbreaking finally began in spring 2009 for the aquatic expansion at the Rock Springs Family Recreation Center!  This multi-million dollar addition will provide our patrons with a leisure pool area and an outdoor spray ground area for enjoyment by all.  We will complete Phase I of the expansion in late summer of 2010.

So, whatever your desire is when it comes to recreation, the City of Rock Springs Parks and Recreation Department is here to serve you.  Please visit our entire Parks and Recreation website, as all five divisions of our Department have provided information.

I wish to encourage you to send us your suggestions and ideas at any time.  I will personally see to it that every effort is made to make your recreational experience in Rock Springs enjoyable, safe and healthy!!

Best regards,

Dave Lansang
