The Detective Division consists of seven full-time investigators supervised by one sergeant, two corporals and assisted by an investigative administrative assistant. The primary goal of the investigative unit is to assist uniformed patrol in the investigation of serious or complex crimes. This is done through several methods, including by not limited to:
Violent Crime
Property Crime
Crimes Against Children
Cold Case Investigations
"Cold Case" is a term used to describe a case which remains unresolved. This typically occurs when all viable leads have been exhausted and no suspects have been identified or a suspect is identified but a lack of evidence prohibits arrest or prosecution.
As time passes, other crimes occur that require the immediate attention of investigators. Investigators who are originally assigned a case may move on to another assignment, be promoted, or retire. Sometimes the crime's jurisdiction may be a factor in a case "going cold".
