Records Division/Request Report

The Rock Springs Police Department Records Division is composed of one Records Supervisor - Public Information Officer, and two Records Technicians, a Community Service Officer, and is supervised by the Services Division Commander.

Records Division hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

The Records Division is responsible for receiving, processing, distributing, and maintaining police reports and other police data including incident reports, citations, accidents, arrests, and press releases. The division not only assists police officers on a daily basis but many public and outside agencies as well.

Reports are purged based on retention guidelines set forth by the State of Wyoming and by the Rock Springs Police Department policy.


Release of Information

  • Requests for copies of police reports are considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Not all requests for copies of police reports will be honored.
  • All requests will be based upon Wyoming State Statutes and the R.S.P.D.'s Release of Information policy.

Procedure for obtaining copies of police reports:

The Rock Springs Police Department has launched a new system for requesting police reports. Starting today, requests and payments for a Rock Springs Police Department Report can be submitted online. You can access the portal at RSPD Report Request.

The new system uses GovQA software, to allow requesters to submit a public record request online, track its progress, pay, and receive updates by email. The software is designed to improve the experience for requestors while also providing added security and helpful process automation for RSPD employees.

REQUIRED

  • A valid Picture I.D. 
  • Background checks must be requested with a signed release from the subject.
  • Copies of reports currently under investigation and/or active will not be released if or until the investigation is complete. Wyoming state statute 16-4-203(b)(i)
  • Any information not adjudicated at the time of the request will not be considered for release until court proceedings are complete.
  • Any reports not adjudicated after 90 days of the request will be destroyed. The applicant will be required to restart the request process including paying the fees.
  • Requests not picked up after the applicant is notified will be destroyed after 30 days.

FEES

  • Fees are non-refundable even if the request is denied or not adjudicated.
  • $3.00 for Accident Reports and CAD Calls.
  • $5.00 for Copy Requests and Background checks (per name).
  • $10.00 for CD/DVDs/Flash.
  • A service fee of $2.00 will be added for credit/debit card payments.
  • To avoid the service fee reports can be picked up at 221 C Street, Rock Springs, WY, with a cash payment.

  • Face Covering Required
  • Hours 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.- Monday through Friday excluding holidays
  • $5.00 for a Set of Cards and for Reprints (There is a service fee of $2.00 for credit/debit card payments.)
  • Valid Picture ID Required

 


 

The Records Division also compiles data reflecting crime trends and activities for local, state, and federal offices.
