Rock Springs Police Department Junior Police Academy

This academy is free to Sweetwater County residents.

The mission of the Rock Springs Police Department Junior Police Academy is to offer the youth of Sweetwater County the opportunity to experience hands-on methods and techniques utilized in the profession of law enforcement. Throughout this process leadership, respect, self-discipline, integrity, equality, education and physical fitness will be stressed. The youths will also gain an understanding of community responsibility, problem solving and the role of the public servant.

The goal of the Rock Springs Police Department Junior Police Academy is to provide today's youth with an introduction to the field of law enforcement. Through classroom training, hands-on instruction and practical application, students will be given the basic building blocks of knowledge to establish a solid foundation in law enforcement.

Annual Kiwanis Club Shop with a Cop
The Rock Springs Police Department participates each December in the Shop with a Cop event hosted and sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. This year is was hosted at K-Mart on Dewar and each of the 35 children were given $125 gift cards and the opportunity to purchases whatever gifts they chose. In addition, the children were given a gift certificate to McDonald's for breakfast or lunch. It is an inspiring event for officers to volunteer their time to shop with these low income children. We had 10 of our RSPD officers volunteer this year for the event, along with other law officers from Wyoming Highway Patrol, Green River Police Department, and the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office.
